The World of Game of Thrones Expands
The world of Game of Thrones continues to expand with multiple new spinoffs in the works. One highly anticipated spinoff, ‘Aegon’s Conquest,’ has garnered much attention, particularly after a recent update from its writer, Mattson Tomlin. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tomlin shared insights into his writing process and his close collaboration with George R.R. Martin.
George R.R. Martin’s Involvement
Mattson Tomlin expressed his deep admiration for George R.R. Martin, the renowned author whose works inspired Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Tomlin emphasized the value of having direct access to Martin throughout the writing process. “I’m in the middle of writing the pilot now,” Tomlin said. “I’m in touch with George all the time, and I feel really, really lucky to just have the god of this world in my texts. I can just shoot him a text and go, ‘What does this mean? Please help me,’ and then he will send me an encyclopedia of information.” This direct line of communication with Martin ensures that the new series remains true to the world he created.
Making it Personal
Tomlin also explained why he believes he earned Martin’s approval to develop the new Game of Thrones series. He mentioned that while figuring out the logistics of incorporating dragons into the show was crucial, it was secondary to making the story relatable and personal. “I figured out a way to make it personal,” Tomlin said. “A lot of what won me the job was relating it to real life and talking about the Romanian revolution and my mother. Sometimes, a conquest can be beneficial, but it can also split apart families.”
The Path Ahead
Although ‘Aegon’s Conquest’ does not have a premiere date at HBO yet, the involvement of both Mattson Tomlin and George R.R. Martin promises a compelling addition to the Game of Thrones universe. With Tomlin dedicated to creating a series that Martin can be proud of, fans can look forward to a faithful and engaging adaptation.
